The Summer Band Concert will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd.  Join the band at the Sealy Gazebo on 24th St. and Ave. I, across from Rosenberg Library, in Galveston.  The Liberty Bell will be the theme for the patriotic program.  The band will perform the Liberty Bell March written by John Philip Sousa, and children will be invited to join the band by striking the bell at the appropriate moments.

Free Summer Hands-On Learning Camps


Galveston ISD, in partnership with Texas A&M at Galveston, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and the Dana Center at UT Austin, is sponsoring four innovative, hands-on summer learning camps in July. GISD will provide transportation from GISD campuses and housing areas north of Broadway.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided. High school students can earn one Science Credit for UTMB and TAMUG camps.

GALVESTON — The assistant principal at Angleton High School has been hired to lead Ball High School next year.

William Dean Blair, a high school principal for 12 years, has experience in boosting state standardized test scores. Every campus where he’s worked as an administrator has earned a recognized or exemplary rating by the Texas Education Agency.

Galveston County and Cities – D’Feet Breast Cancer Inc. and the Galveston County Health District’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Control (BCCC) program will be offering free mammograms for women who do not have any insurance including Medicare and Medicaid at the following locations.  Other services available include breast exams and pap smears for women 18-64 years of age.   Women must be a resident of Galveston County and meet income guidelines.  Call (409) 938-2291 to schedule an appointment or receive additional information.

Galveston Summer Musicals is offering local and visiting children their Children's Stage Adventures Program which is a three day theater mini-camp beginning June 30, 2008.  Children will be taught live theater by the casts of this year's Galveston Summer Musicals' Cast.

More than 50 sail boats will race on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico during Texas Race Week, July 24-26, 2008. Principal Sandra Chapa stepped down after two years to become principal of Keller Middle School in North Texas.

The Harris L Kempner Sailing School is offering open registration all summer to youth interested in learning how to sail.  Sailing lessons are free and open to the public.  The school requires student and parent interviews prior to acceptance into the program.

Galveston County and Cities – D’Feet Breast Cancer Inc. and the Galveston County Health District’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Control (BCCC) program will be offering free mammograms for women who do not have any insurance including Medicare and Medicaid at the following locations. Other services available include breast exams and pap smears for women 18-64 years of age. Women must be a resident of Galveston County and meet income guidelines. Call (409) 938-2291 to schedule an appointment or receive additional information.

Universal Access, Dual Credit Assistance Available for Summer 2008 Galveston College Classes

The Galveston College Universal Access free tuition program for local high school graduates will be available during the summer semesters to all 2998 Ball High School and O'Connell High School graduates, as well as students returning home from four year colleges and universities.

The Dual Credit Tuition Assistance Fund, a new project instituted by the Galveston College Foundation, will also aid rising high school juniors who need tuition assistance to take one course for college/high school dual credit.

Geo's Texas Tumblers Summer 2008 Programs


Geo's Texas Tumblers Summer 2008 Rgistration will start the week of April 28th - for all ages!


 
Classes are offered for ages 2 and up (to adult level). 

Summer registration will be $10.00.  Regristration will remain open through the summer and drop-ins are welcome.  Classes will be scheduled Monday thru Friday,  4:00pm - 8:00 pm and will normally last one hour classes.
 
Summer classes will begin the first week of June 2, 2008.  Classes offered consist of eight 1-hour sessions over a two week period.  Classes are $40.00.  Geo's offers a 15% sibling discount.
