How Galveston Island Celebrates the Fourth of July
Free Summer Band Concert - Thursday, July 3rd
The Summer Band Concert will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd. Join the band at the Sealy Gazebo on 24th St. and Ave. I, across from Rosenberg Library, in Galveston. The Liberty Bell will be the theme for the patriotic program. The band will perform the Liberty Bell March written by John Philip Sousa, and children will be invited to join the band by striking the bell at the appropriate moments.
The evening’s program also includes a performance by the First Baptist Church’s choir; soloist Ms. Donna Heinrich will sing God Bless America and America the Beautiful; Martial Arts America, instructed by Ishmael Robles, will present a patriotic Karate demonstration; and John and Betty Lou Williams will be the color barriers displaying flags from the military forces.
The Galveston Beach Band directed by Frank G. Incaprera, will perform a variety of selections including a sing-along, Sousa marches, big band music and Broadway hits. The concert is free to the public.
Fourth of July Parade & Celebration - Friday, July 4th
Come Fourth and Participate in Galveston’s 4th of July Parade and Celebration. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Galveston Railroad Museum on 25th Street. It will head north winding its way through downtown, from Postoffice Street to 21st Street, north on 21st Street to Strand, then west on Strand to 25th Street. The parade is immediately followed by a celebration of our nation’s birth in the air-conditioned comfort of Galveston Railroad Museum, 123 25th Street.
The celebration will include musical entertainment by Sparky Koerner and a patriotic program hosted by Joe Huff of Galveston College. Hot dogs and other refreshments will also be provided. In addition to free admission to all the Museum’s exhibits, the Railroad Museum will also provide train rides (cost: $5.00) on their SP Diesel Switcher Locomotive!
Decorate your bicycle, tricycle, golf cart, skates, horses, wagons, carriages, floats, or any other favorite mode of transportation and join us in the parade! Participation in the parade is free and fun for the entire family! Annual Fireworks Display - Friday, July 4th
The Park Board of Trustees in conjunction with the City of Galveston will present the 4th of July Fireworks display on Friday, July 4th, at 9:15 p.m. (weather permitting). The fireworks will be presented at 37th and Seawall, and will last about 25 minutes.
Traffic Closures: The Seawall from 33rd to 45th streets will be closed from 7:30 pm until the end of the fireworks display. There will be no parking on Seawall Boulevard from 36th to 38th streets on either side of the street. There will also be no parking on Seawall Boulevard from 46th to 47th Streets on the south side, and from 32nd to 33rd Streets on the north side.
